UK. January 7th, 2024 – A new book authored by Michael Parker which shares rehearsal stories from legends and everyday heroes is set to be released in the UK later this month.
Once More With Feeling is the first to explore rehearsal practices that are common to artists, athletes, politicians and interviewees in their pursuit of success.
Michael Parker is the UK’s leading pitch coach and author of the bestselling book on how to present yourself, It’s Not What You Say, It’s The Way You Say It! He draws on both his experience from competing as a hurdler in two Olympics, and from over 1000 business pitches, in compiling these stories.
Michael Parker said: “Rehearsal isn’t just for actors. Once More with Feeling has a wide-ranging scope of appeal for anyone preparing to perform, from the nerve-wracking job interview to the corporate world of contract negotiation, team-briefings and presentations.
“In the expanding world of social media, influencers aim to entice their followers to buy into their journey. Rarely can any of this be best achieved off-the-cuff or in a single take.”
The book has received rave reviews. Caroline Goyder, author, Find Your Voice said:
“I’m sure anyone, artist or athlete, set on mastering their performance, will gain from these stories. I did!”
Jonathan Maitland, playwright and broadcaster said: “Whatever you’re preparing for – a speech, job interview, business pitch, sports event, concert or play – this book will improve your performance. Full of invaluable nuggets of advice.”
Once More With Feeling will be available to purchase from Amazon and leading UK bookstores from 23 January.
Michael Parker added: “This book will be of interest to both coaches and the coached. Whatever you’re preparing for – speech, job interview, business pitch, sporting event, concert or play, it will inspire your performance, and help you stand out in a world of AI.”

SUFFOLK, UK. 5th November, 2024 – British social work leader Julia Ross has released her new book, The Laughing Robot, a thought-provoking science fiction novel that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, social care of the elderly, and the human experience in a near-future world.

Set on the Isle of Wight, The Laughing Robot follows Anna, a recently widowed social worker who becomes embroiled in a high-tech mystery when an experimental robot companionship program transforms the island into ‘Home Farm’ – a senior haven with mandatory robotic caregivers.

Key aspects of the novel:
  • Blend of humour and poignancy in tackling serious themes of aging, autonomy, and technological ethics
  • Explores the impact of AI on social care and elder rights
  • Features a relatable, feisty grandmother as the unlikely heroine
  • Set in a vividly realized near-future Britain
  • Uncovers the truth behind the sinister “Right Way” initiative
“In The Laughing Robot, I wanted to explore the very real questions we’re facing about the future of aging and care in our increasingly technological world,” says Ross. “Through Anna’s journey, readers will confront their own assumptions about what it means to grow old with dignity in a society that often seems eager to side-line its older people.”

The novel promises to spark important discussions about:
  • The ethical implications of AI in caregiving
  • Ageism and societal attitudes towards the elderly
  • The balance between technological advancement and human touch in social care
  • Corporate and governmental responsibility in elder care
  • The author has worked for many years in social care, is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, and is the current chairperson of the British Association of Social Workers
The Laughing Robot will appeal to fans of speculative fiction, readers interested in the social implications of technology, and anyone who has ever pondered what it means to age in the modern world.

Author, Kate Hall of The Full Freezer says, “I originally drafted the story of the Magic Pause Button with my daughter back in 2021. I hoped we could create something to help her more easily explain to her friends what her Mummy does for a living, and share some handy tips and tricks with them. But, as it was the early days of building my business, and we were in the throes of the pandemic, this file just ended up sitting unread on my laptop.

‘In 2023, I stumbled across an Illustrator that I loved on Instagram (@alexiapinchbeck), but it wasn’t until May 2024 that I finally found the courage to reach out to her to see if she would be interested in collaborating.

‘Over the past three years of growing The Full Freezer, I have lost count of the number of times that adults have said to me that they wish they had been taught what I teach in school. So, whilst the book is still there to help my daughter and share some tips, it now has a deeper purpose.

‘Whilst I can’t change the curriculum, or make food waste the top of the agenda for schools, I can try to reach as many young people as possible with this story, so that they grow up with the knowledge their parents missed out on. My hope now is that this book can help future generations (and their parents!) to understand the importance of reducing our food waste (both for the planet, and our purses) and how our home freezers can help us to do this with ease.”

SOMERSET, UK. October 2nd, 2024 – An exciting new book by journalist and author Sally Smith, The Women Who Went Round the World, shines a spotlight on the remarkable women who became the first to circumnavigate the globe by sea, land, air, and space.

While the stories of figures like Sir Francis Drake and Captain Cook are well-known, the extraordinary achievements of these women have largely gone unrecorded – until now. Full of entertaining stories, social history and real adventure, this book also ensures that, at last, the names of these pioneering women are finally officially recorded for posterity.

The book delves into the lives of 11 trailblazing women, from the 18th century to modern times, who broke barriers and embarked on epic journeys, often defying societal expectations and navigating uncharted territories.

One of the earliest stories featured is that of Jeanne Baret, an illiterate French woman who, in 1767, disguised herself as a man to join a French expedition. Along the way, she discovered the now-famous Bougainvillea plant in Rio de Janeiro, though the credit was wrongly attributed to the expedition’s leader, Captain Bougainville, to protect her identity. Baret’s journey continued, eventually making her the first woman to circumnavigate the globe, despite numerous challenges.

Smith’s book also highlights the adventures of Annette Meakin, who in 1900 became the first woman to travel around the world by train, journeying through remote parts of Russia and escaping the Boxer Rebellion in China. Similarly, the tale of Harriet White Fisher, the first woman to circumnavigate the world by car in 1909, is filled with humour and ended with three unexpected passengers —including two dogs and a monkey.

One of the most captivating stories in The Women Who Went Round the World is that of Lady Grace Drummond Hay, the first woman to travel around the world by air aboard the Graf Zeppelin airship in 1929. Her journey, marked by political intrigue and personal drama, epitomises the spirit of adventure shared by all these pioneering women.

Author Sally Smith says she loved writing the book: “The more research I did, the more truly fascinating stories I discovered,” she said. “I’ve written the book to be an entertaining read for everyone and, full of fabulous adventure plus real glimpses into society around the world at different times, it is certainly fascinating, but I am also delighted that at last there is now an official record of these outstanding women and their names and achievements are properly recorded for history.”

The Women Who Went Round the World is published by The History Press and is now available for purchase on Amazon and in major bookstores.

NORTHUMBERLAND, UK. September 9th, 2024 – After the Bridge, a crime novel by Andrew J Field that starts and ends on the Humber bridge and spends the rest of the time in Manchester, will be published by Hit the North on Friday, 22nd November, 2024.
Two suicidal lost souls — failing actor Owen and traumatised Ukrainian refugee Becky — bump into each other by accident on the Humber bridge. They postpone death to honey-trap men, but find themselves drowning in a cesspit of cynicism, corruption and criminality after a blackmailer dies on them in a Manchester hotel. They can only rescue each other if they rediscover their humanity.
‘Bridge started out as cheeky grifter noir, but changed tack completely after Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. Thousands have been killed and millions traumatised in Europe, but we are powerless to do anything to stop the war or the lies used to justify or mitigate it,’ says the book’s Berwick-based author, Andrew J Field.
‘Most of us believe we’re in control of our lives, but in reality fate dictates our destinies. I suppose After the Bridge is my noir take on the nihilistic worldview of Charles Bukowski’s ‘Pull A String, A Puppet Moves’. Unexpected events derail Owen and Becky’s lives and leave them at the mercy of others.’

‘Although After the Bridge has hard-hitting adult themes such as suicide, sexual assault, attempted date-rape, self-harm, incest, war crimes in Ukraine and identify theft, hopefully they are never gratuitous or salacious. Crime writers should avoid glorifying violence, sexual abuse and aggression.’
Emma Haughton, author of The Dark and The Sanctuary, describes the book as ‘dark, twisted and utterly compelling.’ Danuta Reah, author of The Last Room and Not Safe, says the novel was simply ‘engaging throughout’.
The book’s editor, Martin Fletcher, who has worked with Harry Thompson, David Gibbins, Robert Ryan, Jo Brand and Quintin Jardine, says, ‘the novel is consistently entertaining with a lively wit and inventive energy sustained throughout. Particularly appealing is the portrayal of strong women and characters who are sympathetic despite their excesses and flaws.’
Andrew J Field lives with Catherine by the sea in Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, next to the docks and close to the Scottish border. Previous books include Without Rules and All Down The Line. A member of the Society of Authors and the Crime Writers Association, he has an MA in novel writing from the University of Manchester.
After the Bridge (ISBN: 978-1-9999826-7-6) is available for pre-order at www.afterthebridge.co.uk or on Amazon. The hardback is £19.99, paperback £9.99 and Kindle/download £5.
Publisher and blog site Hit the North, launching later this year, champions and celebrates hard-hitting classic and contemporary crime and noir in word, song and film.

DANANG, VIETNAM. 22nd April, 2024 – Daniel Juventus and the Stonehenge-Gate of Magic by author Vo Quang Thinh, pen name J.A.Thinky, has just been published in English, bringing a new wave to fantasy literature.
The story introduces Daniel, a strange boy who is often bullied at school, lost his parents many years ago and lives with his grandfather. With the boy’s strange dreams becoming more and more frequent, one dream becomes a reality and takes Daniel to another land – a parallel world to the real world. Tasked with rescuing the soul of EV, the king of the Kingdom of Light, Daniel is given a powerful key called Ankh and begins his journey to save the world,  embarking on a journey to find his parents who are thought to be dead.
The story captivates and surprises readers as Daniel escapes from the wizarding world in Endivary, and arrives in a land called Havillars – the Kingdom of Light. There is an academy called Oldbenfors, where he learns and experiences life with world greats like Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and many other great people.
It seems that readers will once again be immersed in a second Hogwarts, with the exciting and fascinating things that the author has inherited from Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.
This is one of the novel ideas that world readers have never seen before. The entire first book in this 7-volume series takes readers to a setting that blends magic and science, darkness and light. Where readers can discover interesting things like Professor Newton will teach his students how to make an apple float according to a new scientific law. Professor Andersen will teach literature and Professor Nobel will guide children on how to make perfume mixtures…
Moreover, Daniel and his friends have to fight against the evil of the wizards. Readers can meet a fairly famous character from the Grimm fairy tale, Rumpelstiltskin. The strange character with a quirky personality is described as a mad wizard making things extremely interesting and suspenseful.
Daniel Juventus and the Stonehenge-Gate of Magic, breathes new life into historical figures, offering fresh perspectives on science and art that are sure to captivate readers.
Journey to England
Daniel Juventus and the Stonehenge-Gate of Magic is the first book in a series of fantasy novels by author Vo Quang Thinh. The book was first published in Vietnam in 2018 by Winbooks Publishing House and Literature Publishing House.
With a desire to fully integrate with contemporary literature, Vo Quang Thịnh has taken a long road to bring his book to English and international readers. After completing the work in Vietnamese, the author spent many years searching for an English translator. The current translation was done by Nguyen Thanh Xuan and refined by professional English editors.
Facing challenges akin to those encountered by J.K. Rowling in the infancy of the Harry Potter series,  Vo Quang Thịnh also found it difficult to find a publisher to “sponsor” his brainchild. In 2023, Olympia Publishers, a renowned London-based publishing house, recognized the merit of his work, culminating in the publication of Daniel Juventus and the Stonehenge-Gate of Magic on March 28, 2024, under the pen name J.A. Thinky.

Despite setbacks exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Olympia Publishers remained steadfast in their commitment to realising the author’s vision. Now available in bookstores across the UK, Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan, the book heralds the beginning of a promising literary journey.
The author excitedly told Olympia Publishers that he was grateful to them because now his dream of publishing his book in England had come true.
Olympia Publishers responded enthusiastically: “We are very happy to have made your dream come true, with the release of Daniel Juventus and the Stonehenge-Gate of Magic and we believe this will be the start of a successful journey.”

DUBLIN, IRELAND. 21st March, 2024 – Wild Door Publishing is proud to offer the debut work of Emery Blaine, Where the Silence Sings, scheduled for 18 June 2024 publication.
Where the Silence Sings is the gripping first instalment of The Symphonic Masquerade series, a character-driven tale about identity, perseverance, and discovery among a future fantasy backdrop. Drawing upon themes of grief and found family, this upcoming release is sure to resonate with fans of adventurous and genre-bending tales that explore dark realities and the illuminating sparks which cast a guiding light through them.
“There are numerous impactful moments that lead to the conception we have of who we are and what we mean in relation to the world around us. I wanted to explore that idea through a more fantastical lens, where certain themes could manifest as tangibly as they could metaphorically. In this story, we follow a cast of flawed characters who might fancy themselves one thing, but find out through circumstance that they are perhaps not what they and others have painted them to be. This is a tale of discovery, personal and external, and everything that comes along with that.” – Author Emery Blaine
Sometimes the truth is worse than the lie. When a realms-wide broadcast interrupts Aeyun and his crew’s latest heist with news of the brutal toppling of Raenaru’s most powerful regents, he must make a choice: continue to forge a path towards his own truth, or  –  together with his misfit allies  – discover what happened to Raeyu Thasian, beloved heir to a dynasty and childhood friend to whom his life is tethered. Among the fallout, one thing is clear: Aeyun’s choices will always come back to haunt him.
In self-imposed exile, Aeyun has taken up the life of an ore-smuggler. In exchange for his smithing talents, a small crew of principled thieves have welcomed him into the fold, assisting his search for elusive ore that only he seems able to touch.
The rebellious second sibling of the Thasian legate, Seraeyu Thasian, has wrangled power beyond his imagination. Power, however, is seldom given freely.
A mercenary’s life is never easy, especially when unwelcomed interlopers remain the only connection held with darling Raeyu Thasian. But Sakaeri would be damned if she didn’t help the only family she never needed.
This book will be distributed via Ingram Content Group and Gardners Books Ltd. For more information, visit www.wilddoorpublishing.com

CHESHIRE, UK. 19th March, 2024 – Beneath the beautiful top layer of motherhood, many mums find themselves dealing with a world of conflicting advice, motherhood meddlers, outdated expectations, unsupported postnatal depletion and more. Award-winning writer Laura Rachelle Taylor explores these topics in A Mum Like This

This 52-week memoir of poetry and prose is written in real-time, with one diary entry and poem for each week of the first postpartum year. On this journey through the highs and lows of new motherhood, Laura receives a diagnosis for a life-altering endocrine condition that, like many other women living with this disorder, was missed for many years – though it affected her entire life: Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).

Alongside the emotional turmoil of mood swings and suicidal thoughts, a severe form of PMDD left Laura with a meningioma (brain tumour) and unable to lift her arms above waist height through the pain of cystic breasts. It also led to raw skin and aching muscles that often left her bed-bound. She writes about how her then-undiagnosed condition led her to “press the self-destruct button on many aspects of [her] life and watch it crumble to pieces around [her]”.

She cut off healthy relationships, turned her back on friendships and often reinvented every aspect of her life during the debilitating few weeks that her hormonal imbalance rampaged through her life. Then, around the third or fourth week of her menstrual cycle, Laura would scramble to piece back together everything she’d broken, before “the PMDD monster” inevitably returned. Laura documents her journey to a diagnosis, before exploring the sunshine that lives alongside the thunderstorms of PMDD.

Mostly written whilst raising her baby in a shed during a house renovation, Laura strips motherhood back to its simplest form as she ditches the cupboard full of plastic toys that society is so insistent she needs, in favour of taking a calm, wholesome approach to parenting. She explores nature, spends time at the library and discovers special people and places along the route – particularly in her local town of Northwich, Cheshire.

As the reader journeys through the sunshine and thunderstorms of this memoir, it becomes clear that there’s a wide community of mums “like this”, all learning to comfortably survive – and even thrive – in the often-convoluted world of parenthood. Whether it’s the contradictions of modern motherhood, the journey to a PMDD diagnosis or dealing with motherhood meddlers (don’t they seem to crop up everywhere?), for those who can relate, this book offers the “you’re not going mad” that many new parents – and PMDD sufferers – could do with.
