LEICESTERSHIRE, UK. March 4th, 2025 – Notts Sport, the UK’s leading specialist in play and sports surfacing, is excited to announce the launch of CocoTurf, the world’s first non-plastic artificial turf made entirely from natural coconut fibres. This groundbreaking product offers a sustainable, eco-friendly solution for playgrounds and recreational spaces, combining durability, performance, and environmental responsibility.
In a world where environmental consciousness is becoming increasingly important, Notts Sport proudly presents CocoTurf as an alternative to traditional synthetic grass, which often relies on plastic materials. With CocoTurf, the company has redefined the concept of artificial turf by eliminating the use of plastics, microplastics, and per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), all while maintaining the high standards of performance and safety expected from play surfaces.
CocoTurf is crafted from coconut husks, a renewable natural resource processed into durable, high-performance fibres. The surface is backed by certified natural rubber latex, making it 100% non-plastic and free from toxic substances. The result is a safe, environmentally friendly, long-lasting surface perfect for children’s playgrounds, schools, parks, and other high-traffic areas. The materials used in CocoTurf are entirely natural and non-toxic, providing a safer option for outdoor play without the environmental concerns typically associated with artificial turf.
A key advantage of CocoTurf is its environmental impact. Unlike traditional synthetic turf, CocoTurf utilises natural coconut fibres, making it more sustainable and can biodegrade. Not only does this reduce the risk of harmful microplastics entering the environment, but it also minimises the carbon footprint typically associated with manufacturing plastic-based surfaces. Furthermore, CocoTurf is designed to stand up to the elements, offering high levels of durability even in the most demanding conditions.
In terms of production, each coconut produces approximately 200 grams of usable fibres, and the husks of 600 coconuts provide sufficient fibres to cover a 60-square-metre children’s play area.
Duncan Bennett, CEO of Notts Sport, shared his excitement about this revolutionary product: “This is a milestone in the evolution of outdoor play surfaces. Our drive to find ever more sustainable surfacing solutions has led us to invent the world’s first non-plastic synthetic grass—CocoTurf. This is not just another product—it’s a revolution in sustainability. For the first time, communities can install an artificial surface without the harmful impact of plastics. This is the future of play surfaces, and we’re thrilled to lead the charge.”
CocoTurf’s design and performance make it the perfect choice for anyone seeking an environmentally responsible, durable, and safe surfacing solution. It promises to transform playgrounds and parks, providing an eco-friendly alternative that meets the highest safety and performance standards while reducing traditional artificial turf’s environmental footprint.
With CocoTurf, Notts Sport is paving the way toward a greener, more sustainable future for outdoor recreational spaces. By choosing CocoTurf, communities can enjoy the benefits of artificial turf while safeguarding the planet and the health of future generations.

The Act4water Standard unlocks a voluntary market of Positive Water Credits generated by local water-enhancing projects
LONDON, UK. February 27th, 2025 – As global freshwater availability faces challenges, sustainability experts join forces to protect water resources and enable organisations to address their water footprint. The alliance agreement signed yesterday in London expands the reach and impact of the Act4water Standard, a certification framework designed to foster water compensation and promote climate change adaptation.

The announcement coincides with London’s emergence as a leading centre for water innovation, highlighted by the recent World Water-Tech Innovation Summit on February 25-26, 2025. Desirée Marín, who serves as Chairperson of the Act4water Executive Committee and represents Fundación Aquae in the alliance agreement, recently participated in the summit.

Commenting on the initiative, she notes: “This collaboration merges water science, business innovation, and social commitment, providing companies with a tangible measure of climate adaptation through water footprints and positive credits—driving resilience across businesses, ecosystems, and communities while fostering sustainable finance”.

Spain, where 75% of its population could face high water stress by 2050- according to a World Resources Institute analysis – becomes the launching ground for this international initiative. With active projects in critical areas such as Doñana, Barcelona, and Tenerife, the model aims to establish a global benchmark for water footprint compensation, drawing inspiration from the worldwide success of carbon markets.

Act4water promotes local initiatives that improve water quality and availability, such as aquifer recharge or water reuse. The impact of these projects is measured in Positive Water Credits, a quantifiable unit for positive water impact. Each credit represents 1,000 m³ of water footprint saved within a basin. In other words, if a project improves the quantity or quality equivalent to 1,000 m³ of water in an area, it generates 1 credit.

To evaluate the impact of projects, Act4water relies on distinct standardised methodologies such as the water footprint, a measure of humanity’s appropriation of fresh water, developed by Water Footprint Network (WFN). Rick Hogeboom, WFN director and member of Act4water’s Executive Committee, explains: “Aligning corporate action with rigorous methodologies is essential to ensure measurable and transparent positive impacts. By bringing the Water Footprint Network’s academic perspective, we aim to ensure water compensation practices drive long-term water sustainability and resilience”.
By a set of official certification marks registered in the EU, USA and UK, Act4water enables companies to compensate for their water footprint while supporting impactful local projects. The Act4water Standard provides organisations with a certification framework to showcase their dedication to sustainable water management, either through reduction efforts or impact compensation. Companies and institutions can earn Water Committed, Water Active, or Water Positive certifications based on their achievements. Moreover, the Water Neutral certification offers a way to validate water impact compensation for individual products, events, or spaces.

This international collaboration comes at a crucial time, with the entry into force of new regulations such as CSRD and Green Claims, which require improved transparency and accountability in corporate environmental reporting. Jaap Feil, managing partner at Water Footprint Implementation and a member of Act4water’s Executive Committee, notes that “this certification framework bridges the gap between regulatory compliance and tangible environmental impact, enabling businesses to meet new EU directives while driving real progress in protecting water resources”.

LONDON, UK. February 6th, 2025 – Spudos enters the Dragons’ Den on Thursday 13th of February at 8pm on BBC One with their unique crisps offering to see if they can tickle the Dragons’ taste buds. Spudos are unseasoned crisps that you season yourself with their 8 amazing flavours of Spud Dust. They’re UK produced and use home-compostable packaging and refillable tubs.
We eat 6 billion bags of crisps every year in the UK alone and most of those bags can’t be recycled and end up in landfill, the ocean, or being burned. Del Currie, Spudos co-founder, says “I started shopping more sustainably myself, but being a crisps addict, I was still sneaking off for a cheeky bag of crisps and feeling guilty throwing that empty packet in the bin”. So he decided to start Spudos with his business partner Chris Neal.
“I remembered getting Salt n Shake when I was a kid and feeling like a chef cooking my own crisps” says Currie. Crisps have pretty much been the same for the last 70 years, so they decided to do something different with their crisps while doing good for the planet.
With a Spudos crisp kit you get a big 500g bag of crisps (about 16 regular bags worth), some Shake Bags and their Spud Dust seasoning.  You just add some crisps to a shake bag, sprinkle on your favourite seasoning, shake them up and enjoy.  All disposable packaging is home-compostable with Spudos, so you’re not dumping a crisp bag that’s going to take 80 years or more to decompose.
How did Spudos do in the Den? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Maintaining global exports, cheaper energy, kerbside collections, among the asks directed at Secretaries of State
CAMBRIDGESHIRE, UK. February 6th, 2025 – The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), the voice of the UK metals recycling industry, is calling on the Government to improve business conditions for UK metal recyclers in order that the industry can grow and thrive and, with its proven sustainability credentials, support the Government’s ambition of being net zero by 2050.

An Agenda for Change, targeting key Government Ministers, highlights the UK metals recycling industry’s key asks it says will make it easier for them to do business. These asks will support the industry to continue to enjoy free and fair trade, improve site safety, and contribute to the UK’s net zero ambition.

The document, which was presented to MPs at a parliamentary dinner, highlights issues facing metal recyclers and calls on Government to consider the following:
  • Unfettered free and fair trade by not imposing export restrictions on metal; the UK metals recycling industry can more than support the UK steel industry with scrap metal
  • Additional treatment facilities for hazardous and POPs waste whilst encouraging eco-design to design out harmful substances
  • For metals recycling to benefit from the British Industry Supercharger (lower energy rates) and facilitate technological innovation between metal recyclers and steelmakers
  • Kerbside collection for batteries and small WEEE with the aim to reduce fires caused by lithium-ion batteries entering recycling and waste sites
  • Setting minimum recycled content requirements for new public sector infrastructure projects
  • A variable-rate deposit return scheme to encourage the use of 100% recyclable metal over plastic
“Given recycling’s prominence in achieving net zero goals, and metals’ 100% recyclability, the Government needs a strong metals recycling industry. It will benefit the country to move forward and reach its 2050 targets,” said James Kelly, BMRA’s CEO.

“I am looking forward to laying out BMRA’s lobbying priorities for the UK metals recycling industry, focusing on key asks that enable our industry to operate in the most cost efficient and sustainable way.

“Metals recycling’s evidential impact on sustainability and climate is clear – it lowers CO₂ and helps preserve natural habitats by reducing the need for primary extraction and raw materials. BMRA’s calls on the Government are simple and clear: strongly consider the UK metals recycling industry’s impact to your own ambitions.”

Key facts:
  • From yearly arisings of 11.5 million tonnes of scrap metal, the UK exports 70-80%. Even supplying 100% of UK steelmakers scrap metal requirement (expected to reach 60% of total arisings) there would still be a 4 million tonne surplus of scrap metal.
  • The cost to metal recyclers of the disposal of hazardous materials is approximately £300-400 per tonne and yet the level of hazardous materials is growing.
  • Over 1,200 fires in the waste industry are caused by lithium-ion batteries as there are no simple routes for disposal.
  • In addition to switching to Electric Arc Furnaces, which can be supplied with 100% scrap steel, an ambitious Government would lower electricity costs across the entire metals value chain expediting the switch to electric from diesel and lowering CO₂. For example, switching from a diesel baler to an electric one can reduce CO₂ by 49%.
  • Government can reap the benefits of the green economy and reach net zero targets by embedding green principles within public sector procurement. Using one tonne of recycled steel in public procurement would avoid 1.5 tonnes of CO₂.
  • A flat-rate deposit return scheme incentivises plastic consumption over steel and aluminium cans. It could lead to 826 million extra plastic bottles being produced.

Unlike carbon-neutral products that merely offset their environmental impact, Kuishi’s aim is to remove, prevent or offset 20% more carbon from the atmosphere than it takes to manufacture, deliver, use and eventually recycle their products, often called cradle-to-grave. This is achieved through:

Refillable Design: Each soap dispenser is specifically designed to be refilled, eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles and dramatically reducing waste.
Sustainable Materials: Crafted from durable, reusable, and recyclable materials such as glass, these dispensers are built to last.
Ethical Manufacturing: Production processes emphasise low-carbon manufacturing and use renewable energy where possible.
Offset and Beyond: Kuishi partners with organisations like Carbon Sense, who not only accurately calculate their product’s carbon footprint but also arrange to ethically offset carbon by supporting carbon capture initiatives, reforestation projects, and renewable energy solutions, creating a net-positive environmental impact.

Reducing Plastic Waste: A Core Mission

The staggering number of plastic bottles discarded annually poses a significant challenge for the planet. Kuishi’s refillable dispensing solutions provide a practical alternative by replacing single-use plastics with elegant, reusable designs for homes and businesses.

In the past year, Kuishi’s customers—including households, hotels, and businesses have refilled dispensers over 1 million times, saving the equivalent of over 1 million plastic bottles from landfills and oceans. This achievement reflects the growing adoption of sustainable practices and Kuishi’s pivotal role in helping reduce environmental waste.

“Our mission is to empower people to make a difference in their daily lives,” said Stephanie Melarickas, Founder and Director at Kuishi. “Refilling dispensers instead of throwing away single-use bottles is a small change that makes a big impact, and we’re proud to support our customers in that effort.”

Kuishi is currently seeking to support projects to reduce waste and plastic waste as part of its commitment to supporting local communities.

B Corporation Certification and Commitment to Sustainability

Kuishi’s B Corporation certification, granted in 2024, underscores its dedication to balancing purpose and profit. B Corp certification is awarded to businesses that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

“Achieving B Corp status and launching the UK’s first carbon-positive dispensers are milestones that reflect our core mission,” said Mark Hopkins. “We’re not only rethinking how products are used but also tackling the larger issue of single-use plastic waste while positively impacting the planet.”

Transforming Sustainability for Everyday Use

Kuishi’s carbon-positive dispensing solutions do more than reduce waste—they redefine sustainability for the modern world. By offering elegant, refillable, and durable dispensers, Kuishi enables customers to adopt more responsible consumption habits without compromising quality or style.
