NOTTINGHAM, UK. 3rd April, 20254D Biomaterials Ltd, the materials manufacturing subsidiary of 4D Medicine Ltd, a UK university spin-out company developing next-generation bioresorbable medical devices, today announced it has achieved ISO 13485:2016 certification from The British Standards Institution (BSI).

This globally recognised quality standard for medical device manufacturing marks a critical milestone in the company’s path to market, demonstrating high quality, low risk and customer-focused manufacturing capability.

The certification confirms that 4D Biomaterials Ltd operates under a quality management system that meets stringent international regulatory requirements — a core prerequisite for the raw materials used in medical devices seeking regulatory approvals, clinical deployment, and global distribution. As such, certification significantly de-risks the company’s commercial strategy.

Phil Smith, CEO of parent company, 4D Medicine Ltd commented:

“This achievement is a pivotal moment for our materials manufacturing business. ISO 13485 certification validates its operational systems and sends a clear signal to partners and investors: we are ready to scale. It also reflects the maturity of our technology platform, the discipline of our team, and our commitment to executing a high-quality commercialisation strategy.”

This milestone positions 4D to accelerate the development of commercial partnerships, regulatory approvals, and revenue-generating opportunities as it advances its differentiated product pipeline toward global markets.

MERSEYSIDE, UK. March 26th, 2025 – Reflect Clinic is inviting mothers to rediscover their sense of self this Mother’s Day with their bespoke Mummy Makeover procedure –  a personalised surgery designed to help women feel like the best version of themselves again.
The Mummy Makeover addresses the most common post-pregnancy concerns, combining treatments such as breast uplifts, breast reductions, tummy tucks, and liposuction.
These targeted procedures help to restore pre-pregnancy physiques, tackling issues such as sagging skin, stubborn fat, and abdominal muscle separation that exercise and healthy habits often cannot resolve.
Led by renowned cosmetic surgeon Mr. Gerard Lambe, Reflect Clinic’s patient-focused approach is at the heart of its offering. One recent patient shared her uplifting experience, highlighting the professionalism and warmth of the Reflect Clinic team.
“My two consultations elsewhere had personal connections,” she said.
“So I wasn’t sure I needed a third. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. After a few initial emails with Jayne, I was immediately at ease when we met, welcomed extremely warmly and engulfed by her affable nature.
“Research already showed me that Mr Lambe was an exceptional cosmetic surgeon, but upon meeting him, he was warm and funny and put me at ease. He gave me time (most important to me) and advice, no pressure or sales, answered my (usually) daft questions without judgment, and encouraged me to ask more.
“Every single person that looked after me on the big day was lovely. I couldn’t be happier with the experience and the result. I felt so comfortable with the whole Spire Manchester experience that before I left the building, I knew I would be choosing the Reflect Clinic.”
Performed by Mr. Gerard Lambe, the Mummy Makeover provides more than just aesthetic results. It offers women an opportunity to reclaim their confidence and physical comfort after the life-changing experiences of childbirth and motherhood.
With a dedicated team and supportive environment, Reflect Clinic ensures that every patient feels empowered throughout their transformation.
For mothers considering this step, Reflect Clinic offers useful resources such as the guide Is a Mummy Makeover Right for You?, which details the benefits and considerations of the procedure.
The Clinic prioritises education, transparency, and outstanding care to help mothers make informed decisions.

London, UK. March 19th, 2025Trilateral Research is working to create an innovative AI-powered screening tool for early melanoma detection.
Partnered with healthcare providers, AI developers, and research institutions as part of the iToBoS Project (Intelligent Total Body Scanner for Early Detection of Melanoma), the new system will integrate AI with advanced imaging to provide a more comprehensive view of skin health.
A key challenge in AI-driven skin cancer detection is bias, as many existing tools rely on datasets that lack diversity. This limitation increases the risk of inaccurate or delayed diagnoses, particularly for underrepresented groups.
Trilateral is focused on minimising bias in the iToBoS tool, making it more equitable, transparent, and effective across diverse skin types. The team is also working with partners to reduce bias in AI-driven skin cancer detection, to ensure consistent and equitable outcomes for all patients.
Trilateral evaluated the AI-driven system within the iToBoS project to ensure it operates fairly, transparently, and inclusively, with a diverse and representative dataset.
A crucial part of this effort is the Risk Assessment Model, developed by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), which measures the reliability of the AI’s diagnostic decisions and identifies areas for improvement. Trilateral’s experts provided targeted recommendations to improve inclusivity, strengthen decision-making, and ensure the tool delivers accurate and fair diagnoses for all patients.
Trilateral and its partners are refining how the AI processes and learns from patient data, expanding its ability to accurately detect melanoma across all skin types. By incorporating best practices for fairness and transparency, they are ensuring the system is both reliable and adaptable to real-world clinical settings. The iToBoS project aligns with Trilateral’s broader mission to ensure AI technology is used responsibly and meets ethical and regulatory standards.
The iToBoS project is shaping the future of medical AI. By setting new standards for fairness and responsible deployment, it is paving the way for more inclusive and effective AI-driven healthcare solutions. Trilateral Research remains dedicated to advancing AI solutions that prioritise patient safety, accuracy, and fairness, ensuring that emerging technologies benefit all communities equitably.

IPSWICH, UK. March 17th, 2025 – UK men’s mental health charity MANUP? has announced the extension of its support for groundbreaking independent research into male suicide – the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.

Since 2024, MANUP? has been funding research by Dr Susie Bennett, male suicide researcher at Glasgow University’s Suicide Research Lab. Dr Susie’s work has been has focused on trying to understand why men are more at risk of suicide and what can be done to help more men access a dignified and meaningful life.

Male suicide remains a public health crisis, with suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK. Despite widespread awareness campaigns, many men who seek help still do not receive the support they need. Research funded by MANUP? is tackling this issue head-on by uncovering the real reasons behind the crisis and what must change to reduce these devastating numbers.

“Evidence from our research shows men who are suicidal are going for help but not always getting the support they need,” said Dr Susie Bennett. “This shows the current ‘just talk’ approach is not enough. We need to rethink how we support men and create interventions that actually work.”

Thanks to the support of its fundraisers, MANUP? has been able to keep this vital research going while also reaching thousands of people across the UK. Over the past year, the charity has hosted free events nationwide, bringing together key decision-makers, including town mayors, NHS directors, government officials, headteachers and charity leaders, to drive meaningful discussions and action.

Dan Somers, Founder and CEO of MANUP?, said: “We are proud to be able to support Dr Susie’s Bennett’s research for another year. I believe it says a lot, not only about us as a charity but also larger charities and government bodies, that there is a need to continue with the funding for this critical research from a small charity like ours.

“At MANUP?, we don’t just raise awareness. We take action. Funding this research is about ensuring that when men do reach out for help, they actually get it. The numbers show they aren’t, and that needs to change.

“Unlike other mental health charities, which primarily rely on their own internal data, we’re funding independent UK-based research to provide a clearer picture of what is happening on the ground. By continuing to support this work, we are ensuring that real-world solutions are developed based on the lived experiences of men in the UK, rather than assumptions or imported statistics.”
